A short distance from the rainforest and the banana farms, the dark volcanic beaches of Costa Rica provided John Dyer with a remarkable subject. In this vibrant Caribbean scene, the tall coconut palms rise against a purply tropical and humid sky, their striped trunks and glowing fronds arching above the curve of the bay. The dark sand creates a striking contrast with the turquoise water, where swimmers enjoy the gentle surf.
Along the volcanic shoreline, local life unfolds with an easy rhythm. Cyclists travel along the coastal path beside brightly painted houses, and in the foreground a young woman lifts her arms towards the palms, naturally topless in a moment of warm, open freedom that reflects the spontaneity of tropical living.
The palette of purples, greens and oranges enhances the sense of adventure and travel, echoing the lush vegetation and the energy of the Caribbean coast. Rich layers of foliage, patterned leaves and tropical colour fill the painting with movement and life, creating a superb and highly collectable work that brings the spirit of the wild Costa Rican shoreline into any interior.
